from "Iranian Presidential Candidates" Bahman Aghai Diba - Persian Journal
The Iranian presidential candidates [that] . . . registered . . . . Almost 500 persons . . . registered. Most of the candidates look[ed] like:
1- Intellectually challenged or mentally retarded persons.
2- The troubled souls that they think they having nothing else to do.
3- The people that have lost their relations with the realties and live in fantasies
Looking at these people, I raised the question to myself: why these persons think that they have the right to a president in Iran? What gives the permission to these persons to think that they have a chance to be the president of Iran?
I immediately found the answer: they see the present rulers of Iran and they think they are better than these persons to run the country. They think if such persons that have the highest posts in the Islamic Republic of Iran are good to be the president or the supreme leader, they have chance too.
The present Supreme Leader in Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, that runs everything from the army to radio and TV, is a good example. How did he become the Supreme Leader? Did he possess special talents? Did the people of Iran vote for him? Did he make a coup? or lead a revolution? Not at all
In fact, when the previous supreme leader died, this one was not even an ayatollah. However, a number of Iranian clerics made a story for him. They said the former one had once said in private that this guy was a supreme leader material. As far as the demands of the Iranians were concerned, they could not be more wrong.
